Curacorn
The science of long-term pain
relief
Curacorn was first introduced for use with footballers to give longer-term relief from painful lesions. It is injected directly between the joint and skin immediately under the painful corn/callus.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body and is biocompatible with few side effects or contraindications.
How does it work?
The Hyaluronic Acid used in the foot has the highest viscosity of hydronic acid products, which has been proven to reduce pressure from painful lesions. Once introduced into the body, it provokes the formation of collagen and draws fluid to the area, creating a natural cushion. The Curacorn product stays in the same area to which it is injected and provides a natural cushion between the skin and the joint lasting up to 18 months before the body will naturally dissolve the product.
As we age, we suffer from a thinning of the Epidermis and a loss of fatty pad within the Dermis. This can lead to increased pressures on the bottom of your feet or in between the toes resulting in painful corns and callus (hard skin).
What are the contraindications?
This treatment is not suitable for:
- People who take anticoagulants
- Transplant patients
- Pregnancy, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Under 18 years olds
- Those with autoimmune diseases such as Diabetes Type I or Rheumatoid Arthritis, for example
Who would it benefit?
- Those with painful areas at the front of the foot either with corns, callus or because of loss of fatty padding, making it feel like they are walking on pebbles.
- Those with painful corns in-between the toes, on top of the toes or the outside of the little toe.
- Those with painful corns on the ends of their toes.
- Those with heel pain due to loss of fatty padding, which unfortunately is naturally occurring as we age.
- Those who play sports, including high-impact sports, such as running and football.
- Those who spend many hours on their feet through hobbies or work suffer from a consistently high painful loading of areas of their feet.
Are dermal fillers safe?
The procedure should only be carried out by an HCPC-registered Podiatrist who has successfully completed the training to carry out this procedure.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar that is present extensively under the skin giving our skin that ‘plumpness’.
Dermal fillers we use are FDA-authorised and approved.
Dermal Fillers are low-risk and minimally invasive.
What are the potential side effects?
As Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies, side effects are rare but can include:
- Reaction to Lidocaine, the local anaesthetic, please advise if you feel you may be sensitive.
- Post-operative pain lasting 4-7 days
- Redness, swelling and small lumps and bumps in the area.
- Reaction to the filler is very rare.
- It can reduce your Podiatry visits because of “that corn again”
What can I expect?
Generally, Curacorn treatment would require a set of three appointments.
During your first 1st appointment, we will conduct an assessment to ensure the treatment is suitable for you. We will discuss the aftercare necessary post-injections. Your podiatrist will prepare the affected area with debridement. This is often a routine foot care appointment where your Podiatrist may offer this as a treatment option.
What are the benefits?
- It can reduce the need for medicated pain relief
- It can be an alternative for those considering surgery
- It can offer long-term pain relief and the benefit of increased mobility, mental health and well-being.
- Reduced Podiatry appointments for painful corns.
