Poderm Method for Fungal Nails

Developed in Switzerland and new to the UK, we are the first podiatry clinic in the UK to offer the Poderm Method for Fungal Nails.

Poderm Fungal Nail Treatment

Nail fungus (also called onychomycosis) is a common infection that affects the look and health of your nails. It often causes the nail to turn yellow, thicken, or lift away from the skin. It is important to treat fungal toenails promptly, as they will progressively worsen without treatment.

The Poderm Method is a professional, ongoing treatment plan for fungal toenails. It works best when treating 1-3 affected nails and combines in-clinic treatments with specialist Poderm serums used at home. This combined approach has highly effective results. Poderm products and treatment methods are available at Cutting Edge Podiatry in Cambridge.

The Poderm Method for Fungal Nails

The Poderm Method involves the following steps to treat fungal nails:

1. Initial Appointment – 60 Minutes

Your first appointment begins with a full assessment of your fungal toenails. Your podiatrist will explain the Poderm Method, go through consent, and take clinical photos so we can monitor progress.

The damaged part of the nail is carefully trimmed back to healthy nail. A drill is used to remove thick, brittle, or crumbly nail layers so that treatment can reach the area where the fungus lives. This is painless and helps the Poderm serums penetrate properly.

At your appointment, you will also receive the following items:

  • A Poderm Fungal Nails Serum to eliminate fungus
  • A Poderm Booster Serum to speed up healing
  • A toe cap (if appropriate) to promote nail regrowth and protect the nail from shocks
  • Products to treat Athlete’s Foot, including a footwear spray

2. Ongoing Treatment at Home

The Poderm Method for fungal toenails requires daily home care to fight the fungal infection while supporting healthy nail regrowth.

You will:

  • Apply Poderm Fungal Nails Serum twice a day
  • Apply Poderm Booster Serum twice a week
  • Wear the toe cap, if appropriate

Consistency is essential. Following the plan maximises the effectiveness of the treatment.

3. Follow-Up Appointments – Every 6 Weeks

For the Poderm Method to be effective, follow-up appointments are required every six weeks.

During these appointments:

  • Any new thickened or infected nail is gently reduced
  • The nail is prepared again to support serum absorption
  • Updated progress photos are taken
  • Further guidance is provided

Appointments last up to 30 minutes.

Additional home care products can be purchased if needed.

How long does it take to treat nail fungus & how long should I use the Serum?

It depends on how bad it is and how fast your nail grows. You’ll usually see a difference in 6 to 12 weeks, but it can take a few months for the nail to fully grow back healthy. Sticking to the treatment every day is really important.

You might notice improvement from the very first application of Poderm Fungal Nail Serum, but it’s important to keep using it until the nail has fully grown out. This takes time – usually 1 to 4 months for fingernails and 6 to 12 months for toenails. Sticking with it is key to full recovery.

Is Poderm Fungal Nail Serum natural?

Yes, all PODERM® treatments are are made with naturally derived ingredients and don’t contain harsh chemicals. This includes the nail serum which is 100% natural. Poderm products are tested by skin and foot care experts, and are gentle enough for sensitive skin, children, pregnant women*, and people with diabetes*.

Should I apply the Poderm serum to all nails, even the healthy-looking ones?

Yes, it’s a good idea to apply the Poderm Fungal Nail Serum to all your nails – even the ones that look normal – to help prevent the fungus from spreading. Don’t worry, using the same bottle won’t cause any cross-contamination.

How many applications are in one bottle of Poderm Fungal Nail Serum?

Each bottle of Poderm Fungal Nail Serum contains around 300 applications – enough for about 4 months of regular use.

Can nail fungus come back?

Yes, it can – especially if you stop treatment too soon or if your feet stay in warm, damp conditions like sweaty socks or tight shoes. That’s why PODERM also has preventive care products to help keep your nails strong and protected once they’ve healed.

Can I still wear closed shoes during treatment?

Yes, you can – just try to wear breathable shoes, keep your socks clean by washing them regularly, and avoid damp or sweaty conditions for too long. Keeping things clean and dry helps stop the fungus from coming back.
