Our resident physiotherapist offers specialist diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injection therapy for a range of joint, tendon, muscle, and soft tissue conditions. We focus on accurate diagnosis, targeted treatment, and helping patients manage pain and improve mobility.
Onward referrals and formal reports are available for an additional cost.
Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create live, real-time images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This safe and effective imaging technology can help identify tendon injuries, bursitis, arthritis, ligament damage, inflammation, and a wide range of soft tissue problems quickly and accurately.
Ultrasound assessment also allows dynamic examination during movement, which helps to provide a more accurate diagnosis and guide the most appropriate treatment plan. In some cases, ultrasound may also be used alongside injection therapy, improving accuracy and treatment precision.
Injection Therapy
Our physio services also include guided injection therapy with ultrasound guidance, which improves the accuracy of treatment by ensuring injections are delivered precisely to the affected area.
Cortisone / Steroid Injections
Corticosteroid injections may help reduce pain and inflammation in a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis, bursitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma, trigger finger, and tendon-related pain. They are commonly used to treat problems affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
Often a single treatment provides significant pain relief and restores the normal range of movement, although this varies depending on the condition being treated.
Hyaluronic Acid Injections
Hyaluronic Acid injections are designed to help lubricate and cushion arthritic joints. They are commonly used to support movement and reduce discomfort associated with osteoarthritis, particularly in the knees, and may provide longer-lasting symptom relief for some patients. Our resident physiotherapist offers all types of HA injections but keeps stock of Ostenil Plus and Biolevox only. If you require an alternative type, please request this in advance.
Arthrosamid Injections
Arthrosamid is a long-lasting injectable hydrogel treatment for knee osteoarthritis. A single injection treatment can help reduce knee pain, improve mobility, and provide longer-term symptom relief without the need for surgery.
Meet Our Cambridge Physiotherapist
Physiotherapy clinics are led by Neil Liffen, an experienced Extended Scope Physiotherapist and Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Sonographer with over 15 years of experience working within both the NHS and private practice. Neil specialises in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injection therapy. His approach combines detailed clinical assessment with advanced imaging to support effective treatment and improved patient outcomes.
Neil joins our Cambridge clinic from Friday 19th June 2026 onwards and will be available every 3 weeks from 8:30am to 12noon.
