Injection Therapy Cambridge
At Cutting Edge Podiatry in Cambridge, injection therapy is provided by experienced Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Sonographer Neil Liffen.
What Is Ultrasound-Guided Injection Therapy?
Ultrasound-guided injection therapy can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support recovery from a range of musculoskeletal conditions.
By using diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound during the procedure, the exact treatment area can be identified, allowing injections to be delivered with greater accuracy than landmark-guided techniques.
We offer three types of ultrasound-guided injection therapy; hyaluronic acid injections, cortisone injections, and arthrosamid injectons.
Cortisone Injections in Cambridge
Cortisone injections are commonly used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain in joints, tendons, bursae, and soft tissues.
For some patients, a cortisone injection can provide significant symptom relief, while for others it creates a valuable window of reduced pain that allows rehabilitation and physiotherapy to be more effective.
Cortisone injections may be suitable for conditions including plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma, bursitis, tendon inflammation, arthritis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, frozen shoulder, and various foot and ankle conditions.
Many patients experience improvement within days or weeks of treatment, although results vary depending on the condition being treated and individual circumstance
Hyaluronic Acid Injections
Hyaluronic acid injections are primarily used to treat osteoarthritis and joint pain. The treatment works by supplementing the joint’s natural lubrication and shock absorption, helping joints move more smoothly and comfortably.
These injections can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, exercise, and sport. Hyaluronic acid injections are commonly used in the knee but may also be suitable for other joints, including the hip, shoulder, and ankle.
Many patients experience symptom improvement for several months following treatment, making hyaluronic acid a popular non-surgical option for managing osteoarthritis. We offer all types of HA injections but keeps stock of Ostenil Plus and Biolevox only. If you require an alternative type, please request this in advance.
Arthrosamid Injections
Arthrosamid is an innovative injectable hydrogel treatment designed specifically for knee osteoarthritis. Unlike many other injections, Arthrosamid becomes integrated within the knee’s synovial tissue, providing long-term cushioning and support within the joint.
The treatment is performed as a single injection under ultrasound guidance and has been shown to provide significant pain relief and improved function. Clinical studies have demonstrated benefits lasting up to five years after treatment in suitable patients.
If you are looking to delay or avoid knee replacement surgery, Arthrosamid may offer an effective long-term treatment option.
Which Injection Is Right for You?
The most appropriate injection depends on your condition and the findings from your clinical assessment. In many cases, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound can be used to help confirm the diagnosis and identify the structures involved.
Following your assessment, Neil will explain the findings, discuss the available treatment options, and advise whether injection therapy is appropriate for your condition. Where suitable, injections can be performed under ultrasound guidance to ensure treatment is delivered accurately to the intended area.
